Ike Saul Road Race - 16 April 10am

Following a three year absence the Ike Saul Road Race will be returning on 16th April and we are looking for volunteers to help with the event.

This year the race will be held on the Wendon’s Ambo course with the climb to Littlebury being the centre piece. HQ will be at the Chesterford Community Centre which is about 8 miles from Cambridge.

The race start is at 10am and will last around 3 hours. (There is also a women’s race on the same course at 2pm organised by Finsbury Park CC.)

We are still short of volunteers. The various jobs are listed below.

Roles for the Ike Saul Road Race

  1. Rider registration and collecting race licences – 2 people
  2. Serving refreshments early – 2 people. Time will be 8am to around 9.30am
  3. Serving refreshments lunchtime – 2 people. Time will 12.30pm to 2pm at the latest.
  4. Setting out course pre-race – probably 4 people. Needs to be complete by about 9am and should take about an hour. Signage and layout maps are provided.
  5. Drivers in the peloton – 5 people. People will need to be British Cycling (BC) members and have their own car. BC will provide insurance. Really interesting jobs chauffeuring the race commissaires and listening to the radio. Or acting as neutral service to help with mechanicals.
  6. Finish lines marshals – 3 people. This is done with a combination of phones and old school eye balls. Fortunately these races are normally all over the place so it never comes down to a bunch sprint !!
  7. Waving flags – 4 people. These will at 4 places just to mark traffic islands or similar. The job of stopping traffic is dealt with by motorbikes or Accredited Marshals.
  8. Last and definitely not least is cake making. Anything that anyone can make will be gratefully received and be used for the refreshments.
